When Is a Holding Tank Needed?

November 14, 2014

How Do I Know If a Holding Tank Is Necessary With My Portable Toilet Rental?

Holding TankThere is no denying that portable toilets are incredibly handy and useful in a large number of situations. That being said, there are some obvious concerns that anyone should think about when renting a portable toiled and one is the need for a holding tank. Now there are a few different ways that a renter can assess the need for a holding tank and knowing what to look for is the best way to get the portable toilet and tank that you need.

Venue Policy

The first issue to contend with is of course the regulations of the area in which the toilet is going to be placed. Some areas have stricter regulations on how waste is disposed of, how portable toilets are used, and how they are to be regulated. If you are using a portable toilet anywhere but your own property or that of someone you know, it is crucial that you take the time to find out the regulations of the venue in which the toilet is to be used.

Company Policy

Another issue to contend with is the policy of the company that you are renting the toilet from. Many companies have strict policies on how their toilets are to be used and you may want to take the time to talk to someone about it before you decide to rent. In many cases, a standard portable toilet will come with a tank attached and an optional holding tank for larger volumes of waste. You may find a company that has only standard tanks and that does not have extra tanks. Take the time to do some research before hand.

Number of People and Time

Special EventThe last issue you want to think about is the volume of people that are going to be using the toilet and how long you are renting for. If you are only using it for a few hours with a few people, you likely do not need an extra holding tank. However, if you are using it for a prolonged period of time with a large number of people a holding tank is likely going to be a necessity. You can talk to the renting company about how much waste each tank holds to get a better idea of how big of a tank you will need and if you even need a tank at all. All rentals are different and all situations that call for a portable toilet are different which means that the need for a holding tank really depends on the instance in which the toilet is being rented and used.
