Honey Bucket is headed to Utah’s Salt Flats this weekend! It’s the season for big engines, sunshine, and speed like no one has ever seen. This weekend is Speed Week where the fastest vehicles gather to break as many land speed records as they can.
An ancient glacier lake, the Salt Flats provide racers with the perfect environment to push their machines to the limit. It is world renown as a long, almost perfectly flat natural phenomenon that serves as the perfect straight track. Racers have been testing and racing their machines here for over a century.
The season starts with Speed Week, which is the Salt Flats’ largest event, followed by BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials at the end of August, and finished with the World of Speed in September. Drivers race for top speed in categories ranging from engine size, and body style, to street legality and fuel type. Observers witness classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, and some machines that look more like spaceships than land vehicles.
Here at Honey Bucket, we witness it all. We are headed out this weekend and we’ll be there until the season wraps up in October providing exemplary portable sanitation services. For speed week, our guys actually pack up and camp out on the flats for 10 days. The sounds, smells and sights are unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else. We’ve been serving these racers for three years and have made it into a tradition we hope to carry on as long as they can keep the wheels turning.
To answer the question I know is on everyone’s mind at this point – yes we have raced the Honey Bucket truck. Unfortunately no one removed the limiter, so it topped out around 72 mph (those pump trucks are HEAVY)… See you on the salt!
