A Game-changing Vocational Opportunity!
Cooperative Education is Here for Texas’ Future Workforce
Honeybucket is a family-owned portable toilet rental company where opportunities in the plumbing workforce are steadily growing. Due to this situation, we have partnered the Taylor, Bartlett, Granger, Thrall, and Thorndale independent school districts to enter the Cooperative Education program established by Texas State Technical College (TSTC).
The Cooperative Education program is allowing students who reach an adequate academic standard, in the above mentioned districts, to enter a two year training/working program during their junior year of High School. During this time, students will be provided a head-start in the work industry with absolute monetary coverage for tuition, supplies, and textbooks
At Honeybucket we understand that a college degree does not guarantee anyone a job in today’s society. Add to this the fact that many families don’t necessarily have the money to enroll their kids in college education. The uniqueness of this program allows students to get a college degree or certification in a growing trade while making money at the same time. The student will get High School credits, 2 years of work experience, up to 27 college credits, and a plumbing certification that once completely finished can earn them anywhere from $15 – $20 an hour. Hours worked, both in the classroom and on the job, will be applied towards each student’s Tradesmen’s Plumbing License through the State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
Upon their final certification by TSTC, students interning with Honeybucket will be eligible for scholarships through the Associated Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Texas (PHCC Texas) to continue their education. Through the professional foresight of Mr. Sam Dowdy, a solution has been created to allow boundless opportunities to Texas’ future workforce. As students in high school prepare to select from a range of endorsement paths which have been created by Texas House Bill 5, Sam Dowdy and the partnership he has initiated have built a bridge for some Central Texas students seeking a Business and Industry Endorsement. These students can now be immediately employed upon graduation, as well as eligible for a Tradesman’s license.
We are immensely proud to be part of the TSTC Cooperative Education program and look forward to helping the Texas community grow more every day.
